Charlotte O’Brien submits evidence to the Joint Human Rights Select Committee on the Illegal Migration Bill

The EU Rights and Brexit Hub has some serious concerns about the implications of the Illegal Migration Bill and its compatibility with international human rights law. Professor Charlotte O’Brien has submitted evidence to the joint Human Rights Select Committee highlighting issues relating to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and to rules on citizenship.

The Evidence addresses concerns with the following specific provisions in the Bill:

  • the removal of children under clause 8;

  • the removal of unaccompanied minors under clause 3;

  • the permanent prohibition of children obtaining British citizenship, under clause 30(4) on the basis of their parents’ circumstances of entry to the UK.
